eThekwini residents are complaining about the closure of public toilets and hygiene in Anton Lembede Street, next to ICESA College, a few meters away from the Illovo taxi rank.

The rank manager from Illovo taxi rank, Nkululeko Makhanya, said because of this issue they end up urinating outside the toilet which causes a smell.

As an alternative, the eThekwini Municipality has put four portable toilets at the taxi rank. “I want to complain about these toilets we are going to get sick. There is even smelling sewerage that the commuters are complaining about; right now, we’ve stopped using these toilets. If we want to urinate, we pay R2 in one of the flats owned by foreign nationals near the taxi rank. “ Nkululeko said.

At the time of publication, the spokesperson of eThekwini Municipality, Princess Nkabane, said: they will attend to this matter of the closed public toilets in the CBD.
